Many reasons to visit Laredo,TX – Tales from the Edge

When you visit Laredo you are automatically right on the spot ofwhere Texas begins! As you explore this community on the border with Mexico you discover just how culturally significant it is with its blend of language and influences that date back to 1755 when it was founded by a Spanish army captain, Don Tomas Sanchez. You will see these factors curbside in one of our many town squares; San Agustin Plaza is a prime example in our historic downtown with architecture that stems from European and Mexican designers, and without a doubt you will taste the culture in our food.

That’s another of those unique things that sets this Southern food haven apart from all those other pieces of Texas realty; you just can’t get it like this anywhere else, whether it’s a great Ojo Rojo cocktail, or a flavorful, juicy cut of grilled carne asada meat, it’s so unforgettable because it’s done Laredo-style.

To further immerse yourself in that one-of-a-kind flare, plan to visit us between January and February when Laredo hosts one of the largest patriotic celebrations in the U.S. in honor of George Washington. Its 29 events in 33 days! It’s the celebration with a little something for everyone, from 5K Fun Runs, Tequila Tasting, to street festivals like the UETA Jamboozie! Other than Mt. Vernon, no other location in the United States fetes our founding father, George Washington, with such gallant displays of patriotism with a carnival and two parades, the IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars and the Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade. Several events bring the past to life within the script of the Society of Martha Washington Colonial Pageant and Ball commemorating the first couple’s interaction in society of their time and the American Historical Theatre performance, as well. There is so much more, dances, wine-tasting, the Jalapeno Festival, live music, fireworks and kids activities. Please look for our tourism partners, the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association on line at wbcalaredo.org for a complete calendar of events. These events and more await our visitors!
